TPO Single-ply Membrane Roofing

When it comes to protecting your home or business, having the right roofing materials could be one of the single most important decisions you can make. You need materials that are going to withstand the elements and act as the first line of defense in safeguarding your family or work.

What Is TPO Roofing

TPO, or Thermoplastic Polyolefin, is a heat-reflective, single-ply roofing material designed to be one of the most energy-efficient roofing solutions available today. Categorically speaking, TPO single-ply membrane roofing material sits in the broader range of rubber-based roofing.

First introduced in the 1990s, TPO roofing was touted as the economical answer to traditional PVC roofing. Since then, TPO single-ply roofing has gained notoriety and popularity due to its phenomenal performance in both commercial and residential roofing materials. And, in the interminable pursuit of energy efficiency, TPO single-ply membranes are not expected to be dethroned as one of the most top-rated roofing materials on the market anytime soon.

What are the benefits of TPO roofing

What exactly makes TPO roofing a top choice for flat-roof homes and businesses? The answer lies within four key attributes.

  • Pliability –  TPO single-ply roofing material was originally created to be one of the most flexible roofing materials available. This structural flexibility helps prevent tears, gouges, and other damages that can occur from the home or business’s normal ebb and flow of moving and settling.
  • Resistance to UV Light – TPO roofing offers exceptional shielding from potentially harmful UV radiation from the sun, as well as other chemical destruction. These preventative properties can greatly increase the lifespan of your home, while also making your roof less likely to require repairs. Lastly, this powerful resistance to ultraviolet light will ultimately lead to lower energy consumption for your HVAC system, while also accompanied by a lower monthly utility bill.
  • Environmentally Friendly – With the rise in popularity of environmentally conscious building materials, more and more home and business owners are turning to TPO for its eco-friendly qualities. For instance, TPO single-ply roofing material is 100% recyclable. Towards the end of its lifespan, TPO roofing materials can be granulated and reincorporated into a new membrane for a second use.
  • Overall Strength – While incredibly flexible, TPO roofing materials are expertly engineered to be one of the strongest roofing materials for residential and commercial roofing. Constructed with hot air-welded seams, TPO single-ply roofing materials can be up to four times stronger than more traditionally used roofing materials.

Installation Process With Ridgeline

Depending on certain factors, TPO roofing materials can be installed in a variety of ways including plate-bonded, adhered, ballasted, and even mechanically attached. Throughout the installation process, TPO single-ply membrane roofing sheets are systematically overlapped by a minimum of one and a half inches in an effort to securely seal and waterproof the mechanical fasteners. The TPO membranes are then hot air-welded, creating a seamless and impassable barrier within your home or business’s roof.
